How do you combat your internal clients throwing things over the fence with little to no pre-work, changing up the contract versions they want you to review and generally being lazy af. I'm about to lose my shit. Gah!

A1 is right. I just respond with “looks like we’re not ready for legal review yet. As a reminder, we need to: 1); 2); and 3) in order for legal to review. Excited for this initiative/vendor/etc and I’ll be happy to take a look once we’re ready!

The company culture can affect how you approach it, but I have no issue with sending work back to the business team with a note on what is needed from them prior to my review. That usually changes the way they handle things going forward.

Gotta be a robot about it. No excuses. No exceptions. “ABC must be done before submitting for legal review. Legal review takes up to X days. In certain circumstances we may be able to expedite the review, but ABC must still be done first.”

It’s no different than training the business side on the format to send you things, or that you’re not their personal lawyer who drops everything when they call.

Are you responsible for giving performance feedback? Avoid giving personality based feedback. Examples include telling an Asian person they are too quiet/shy or telling a Black person they are agressive/abrasive. DO NOT DO THIS. It clearly represents bias in Performance Management. Performance feedback should be tied to business outcomes with clear examples of what the person does well + how they can improve.

Had an argument with a partner last night.

He wanted me to prepare a presentation he was going to hold on recent developments in the law within our field.

I asked him whether I was going to make the presentation that he was going to hold by himself and in his own name only, and he said yes.

I then said that either we hold it together and I get to speak just a little or at least stand there, or he does it himself.

So fed up with satisfying narcissists.

Any thoughts on post-season moves for your team? I'm personally really pissed that the Canes are letting Niederreiter talk to other teams. He's a huge part of the team's success and I'm stunned.

My company is notorious for not giving raises unless you ask. My direct report lacks boundaries and has said things like “I haven’t gotten one so…”. There is no report above her anymore as he recently left. Do I meet with the CEO? Or send and email with my request for an increase? I do not trust my direct report to have my back or even take it to the next level for approval.

I've got an interview for a contract that would give me a 60% bump in pay
My current manager asked what they were offering and if there was anything he could do to make things better where I currently am. There is no way they can match the offer, but I'm a little worried about leaving a permanent full time with benefits and vacation time. What's my best move? Ask for 20% and be happy with 10%? Aim higher?

For the record I just barely make living wage as is so it's not going to be massive jumps

This might be philosophical but wanted to understand if we should get satisfied and be happy with what we have or keep striving for more?

Reason I am asking this is - I earn close to 1.5 lakhs every month and if someone had told me this during my college days I would have taken it eyes closed thinking this is more than enough. But today, I am not able to be satisfied and I don't want this to become an affliction so thought to share with others here and get to know the general sentiments.
