Ideally, I avoid getting into arguments in the first place. You have to choose your battles and the best battles are the ones you don't fight. But if it's inevitable, I just try to have my facts in order and make whatever case I have. If it's an argument like should be do A or B, I'll advocate for my preferred position. The only technique I try to use is to be polite, that tends to disarm some people. They expect you to get rude, and if you come off like a character in a P.G. Wodehouse story they don't know how to handle it.

If I find myself in one I detach and just present facts. If I don’t have any I just allow them to blow over me and excuse myself from the argument at the first opportunity “ah yes I see what you are saying.” “Thanks I’ll follow up with you later”
The great detachment strategy! Ah yes! I do employ those from time to time as well and they work like a charm
I usually take a moment to breathe deeply and collect my thoughts before responding. This can help me stay calm and avoid reacting impulsively.
