People who have lateraled, how have you handled the other mid-levels who treat you as a junior associate and try to give you assignments that aren’t appropriate for your vintage? I’m a rising 5th year and I have a rising 6th year sending me docs to save to the system for him (not review/comment/save, just save) and doing document production tasks my paralegal handled at my old firm.

How do you deal with teammates who don't take initiative or move things forward on a project without being told to do so?

We have a deliverable due on Friday with alot of things to get done before then and seems like no one cares? I ask for status updates and all I get is no, haven't done that, will do it now. Sure enough, ask next day and the response is no, haven't done it yet.

These folks are seniors as well. Partner looks to me to provide a status update, and all I can say is in process.

Most of these disputes are so petty and almost every case is about making up makeshift reasons for what would otherwise be wrongful termination.

You see people being fired where the actual reason is for instance hooking up with the CEO’s young female crush, or speaking up about issues in the workplace.

Even the most innocuous detail can be turned against an employee. Eating lunch at your desk can e.g. easily be labelled as being ‘uncooperative’.

I think I’m anxious at work because of the fear of disappointing others.

I’m depressed. Nothing unique about my depression - I’m in big law, my career defines me, when I’m not working I can’t find the will to get off the couch, I’m sad or I’m numb…I know I’m the only one that can make a change to my life…I’m on antidepressants. Last December, my mom said I needed to check myself into a mental hospital. It was a deliberate attempt to hurt, she knew I was getting help and not at risk.
