Reading your post makes me think about one of my past experiences with a French manager🤣 seems to be cultural
Joke aside, I hate people talking to me like that I am not a robot, but a human with feeling. To me it’s really not ok
Honestly I addressed it with a couple of other things (all on the aggressive way of speaking) & it backfired. He finds everything to prove the problem was me like I should ask questions in a better way, I should think more before asking a question, etc. What I would advise you is 1) if the project is short, don’t say it and do like everything is fine. I know it’s super hard but think it’s only a couple of week & as silly as it seems what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. This is valid unless you think the person can totally change 2) if it’s a longer project, well you are not going to kill your mental health for this person. Tell him/her during feedback session that sometimes you feel bad when comments/answers are too direct. See it how it goes, if no change ask to roll off & go to another project!
He’s probably hoping you think it through

That’s what a manager does, help you think, not directly give you answers/solutions. You could have replied that you were not familiar with X and thanks for helping you make the connection.

Yeah, that may be just him. I’ve studied the language and culture for years, and in the country often; and mostly, people are direct AF. When I get passive aggressive stuff I just ignore it or ask frankly, to clarify what are we looking to do?
My boyfriend is French and this has also been my experience. They’re just extremely direct and it can really come off as rude/harsh.

Sounds like my manager who is actually clueless about everything so every question is answered with a question. Idk if yours is being snarky or just doesnt know wtf hes doing.

Shes nice but incompetent af.

Maybe I’m French, I should do my DNA test 😂
