How do you deal with burnout? I am finding it hard to stay motivated. I cut back on the hours I was working but still feel drained at the end of day

I agree with trying to take time off. Turn off emails and tell the management they are not to contact you. It’s hard for me not to take time off but I am. I felt bad before but after seeing how it affected my mental health, I just said fuck it. I work everyday for people that are unappreciative and will take time off. If the work doesn’t get done, it’s ok management for not having back up and for not knowing the job itself.

Take a couple days off and turn off your emails

Do not ignore this! I left a job in march 2018 where I was working 15 hour days and about 6 hours on weekend. I am now starting to feel better mentally. My psychologist tells me it’s because I waited too long and my brain needed time to digest everything (COVID didn’t help).
I don’t know where you are and if you have sick days but go see a doctor and they may prescribe you some time off! You should not use your PTO/vacation time on this…

like

Take time off. I know that sounds like the obvious answer but regularly take time off. It takes your brain several years to recover from severe burnout if you get to that point. If you are almost at a breaking point take an entire week and don’t look at your email whatsoever. Then take maintenance days here and there depending on how much vacation you have. Personally I use to (prior to unlimited PTO) use sick time for this because I think mental health is just as important as physical health and believe it is an appropriate use of sick time. On a daily basis, have a hard cut off time for work. Of course emergencies come up but they should be rare. If they are not, find a different firm.

Always use you PTO to the fullest extent. Learn how to cut off working time every day. It will drastically improve your work life balance and well-being.

I found that asking for a short change in responsibilities helped. I spent a couple of weeks doing the parts of my job that I enjoyed plus took on some new responsibilities to learn something new.

If this is not possible for your role, you could try to apply it to your personal life.

I just started my first fulltime job. It is inhouse and I'm in office. I've been here for a little less then a month now but I still feel like they don't have enough work for me to be full time. I'm constantly asking my Manager what I should be working on and she hardly ever gives me anything. So far I've spent 80% of my days here just researching/reading industry articles. I know it will ramp up some but I feel like there is no way it will be enough to fill 40 hours. What do I do?

How's the work life balance? Glassdoor reviews are full of "long working hours" and hence wanted to know if it's the same with non-consulting folks as well?

How far is it true across the organisation?

Please help me shed some light to decide.

Thanks.

Hi Fishes
I have a offer with a firm consulting firm, looks like it has a very poor wlb and I have only 12 days left in notice period I was waiting on Infosys but somehow got rejected in that, I'm looking for jobs in MNC and that would have 5 days working, and 2 day weekends mandatory off. I have worked more than 15+ hour everyday in current job no weekends which makes me think another 15+ hours everyday with lot of travel might affect me and relations with many close ones.
Advise me please.

I’ve had many interviews, followed by many rejections. They always ask the same thing: how far along are you in your job search or with interviews with other companies? Do they ask this because they like you and want to make sure they don’t lose you to another offer or because if you’re actively looking they don’t want to get into any battles? Not sure how to even answer this, I’ve been honest in the past but not sure if it’s hurt me.

Just a question, maybe more of a vent, but I have been a paralegal for almost 6 years and worked in 3 different law firms and there is always 1 partner that just doesn’t want to do any work but also doesn’t want to retire. And I have always been the main/only paralegal for them. They are always confused about how to practice, don’t remember or just avoid the work. I have no idea how to manage them and get my work done. Any tips?
