How do you deal with general anxiety at work/in the workplace? (I.e. in meetings, when presenting, discussing issues with clients/your team, etc.). I feel like there is so much pressure to perform

Whenever I suffer from this, it's not related to the topic at hand. It's because of fear / instability in my personal or Professional life. I'm not coming from a place of Strength.

Basically, if this task/meeting/project fails, I'll lose my rating and lose my job. Or get a worse bonus, and won't be able to pay my bills, or won't be able to go on the trip I want, etc. That type of a mindset.

Fix the "if I fuck this up, then I won't get what I want" perspective. Either by adjusting expectations of what you want, or setting yourself up so you're not so dependent on the Engagement.

This will make you much better at your job too, cuz you can focus on Delivery / Content rather than having energy wasted on Anxiety.

Realize that the person you're talking to is just another person. Tell them you're a little nervous because they matter to you and they'll either understand or chastise you but it'll help you break the ice. You're not that different than everyone else.

This is exactly why I left consulting... I learned that it just wasn’t for me. Consulting is either for you or it isn’t - some people naturally thrive in these situations while others are usually always stressed. There comes a point where the stress is no longer worth the sacrifice of your health. Life is too short... my two cents would be to start looking for exit opps that don’t place you on the spot all the time. Perhaps look into programming or software automation. Good luck 🍀.

Yeah, I don’t like the putting on a show/dog and pony show type stuff in consulting. It is frustrating that often times it is more about appearances than actually thinking critically and strategically and generating value.

I try to give the impression that I’m quiet and thoughtful...It reduces pressure to participate...and people often actually end up liking and respecting you more!

Please provide me refferal. I have 40 days left. I have 5 yr of experience and the skill set would be python scripting+automation.

My total experience is around 7+ years and am currently working in a MNC from the past 4 years. I was planning to make a switch to some other company but recently my manager has mentioned to me in person and as well as on my appraisal feedback (in writing) that I will be nominated for the H1B visa in the coming cycle. This was in July 2022. Should I be worried that it won't happen or should I start looking for the switch.?
