Quit close to the beginning of the month. Your insurance is valid until the last day of the month.
^Do not do this. God forbid something drastic happens in the weeks you're uninsured (hit by a car, emergency appendectomy, etc...), you'll be fucked with a huge hospital bill that will Bankrupt you. Pay the $500 or whatever it is and go on COBRA for the time in-between. Probably nothing will happen, but that's the point of insurance isn't it? Protecting against the "what ifs" of life.
^Yes, you need health insurance 100% of the time. Any surgery will bankrupt you if you don't have insurance. What if you need an emergency appendectomy? Get hit by a car? Break a bone? Any number of things can happen, where if you don't have insurance you will be completely fucked. Is the $300 savings worth it?
Most employers though give you insurance through end of the month. If you time it right you can leave your firm and gain coverage through new firm without a lapse in service.
^no. Also worth it for feeling not anxious and not adding a few grey hairs...
I simply prefer to always have insurance. I'm not particularly worried that something will happen all the time, but in the event something does I'm covered. That's the entire point of insurance.
Agree on the need to have insurance. If ur questioning the need that's the point if it. It is there if u need it. Also, what if the op has a spouse or kid? And as karma would have it, the moment you need it will be the moment it's lapsed. Better to have the protection and not need it than vice versa.
There is reasonably affordable health insurance through the AICPA (if you're a member). You can get coverage for up to 12 months.
You can get COBRA in retrospect if something goes wrong during those few weeks. Go uninsured, you'll be fine.
^agree with Manager 1. If you are uninsured, take the COBRA. I am in the same boat.
You really need health insurance health insurance that bad???
^^ how do you live believing every second that that something can happen to you any second of the day. Ive been without health insurance never felt anxious nothing....as far car accident perhaps your insurance should cover that as well...jeez I mean to worry about not having insurance for such a small period of time
I'm not even surprised.. m1 seems like the type who is at the doctor every week with a new issue
Good for you, supervising senior
Hu? Not sure I follow.
I believe you can get COBRA retroactively if something goes terribly wrong...there's like an opt-in period...right? There used to be
