Write a recap of what they tell you the first time and send it to them right after they tell you. And then when they said "I said something else" show them the recap lol
To add to my recap comment - the rework will probably still exist. But at least you have your bases covered if they're criticizing based on the quality of work on the tight turnaround due to them wanting rework
Yeah, that makes sense. Seems so tedious ugh. But less tedious than the rework I suppose.

I usually follow-up with an email that had stated expectations and gently say, “Perhaps, there was some misunderstanding. It would be great if we could review expectations, again, to ensure we meet the goals.”

Bad advice by others.... what are the chances the manger already knows? Probably high. It’s a bit of a thing in the business world embraced by hacks that you should never admit making bad leadership decisions. Since the guy is a hack, unless you are invaluable, you are just likely to make yourself a target. The think you are just going to have to take it, and then when given the choice, don’t work for him
