Is anyone at Bain willing to do a referral? 😀
For over 15 years I held customer support roles in a variety of industries. At the same time developing skills in other areas; such as being ordained as a Zen priest and receiving an Integral Coach certification. After being laid off in May, I decided to pursue my coaching business full time.
My question is, for those who have sought out coaching, which area of your life did you focus on first and why?

So many things are common throughout the profession. The real question is, what are you willing to do to stay in the profession/career, and what are you not willing to put up with or do? Every job has it's issue, it is just up to what can you personally handle? Only threw God was I able to handle the last school year. I so wanted to quit after 22 years of teaching, but I stuck it out because I didn't want the devil to win and I refuse to let someone else control my life or career. Don't be hasty in your decisions!
I need to be somewhere that I can feel like I can be part of the solution instead of just complaining about the problems
Unfortunately in my years of experience it's probably the former. Unless you're dealing with a regionally specific problem, or a severely mismanaged school district.
It’s the last part of your comment that’s hard to figure out…it seems like mismanagement but I’m sure there’s more to the story I don’t know about
That's a tough question. You can ask more experienced teachers in other schools, they are usually willing to share the strengths and weakness of each district. Prioritize your needs and then compare them to the strengths of each school. Nothings worse than starting over and finding the same problems. Good luck!
I’ve serviced all of the K-6 schools in our district. I know all of the k-6 principals (12 schools). In my opinion, it kind of depends on the principals leadership skills and management style.
Because of this I assume that the game is unpredictable. I suppose that hiring practices play a big role into who gets principalships, then it’s a district problem.
