Would you be comfortable working on an application in said language? I.e. fixing or enhancing it?
1. Either be able to solve an algorithm in that programming language.
2. Be able to build a project in that language/library.
Wasn’t referring to a mathematical algorithm. Just the type of algorithms that are available to solve on leetcode or hackerrank.
The only things on your resume should be those you're comfortable being drilled on during the interview.
Anything and everything in your resume is fair game for the interviewer. And their sole purpose is to determine your aptitude (skill set) and genuineness (whether you lied on your resume*)
*no decent interviewer will verify your resume beforehand. Because references will always be positive, and some companies don't allow giving them. Instead, they drill you on what you present.
If you have been coding/reading code and are able to make something happen or find a bug by just reading, or at least make an educated guess. No one expects you to be able to code to the moon and back, the younger you are, the lower expectations you have.
Look for a few libraries/projects written in that programming language. If you can read the code and a) understand the syntax and implementation and b) think of ways to refactor and improve the code, I would say you are above novice level.
You put it on your resume and hope they don’t ask 🤣 but seriously you can put stuff on your resume and say it’s in order of proficiency or something like that. If you can write something useful in that language, put it on, doesn’t mean you have to be an expert in it
