At the CIO level, I have seen an initiative that required every IT division to layout an annual roadmap for themselves. Chosen technical folks from that unit present what is, what should be and how to get there. This unearthed innovative technologies that can be brought in as well as required support and change. The units had internal brainstorming sessions to validate approaches and pressure test some leading solutions.
This initiative along with the usual vendor demos, trainings, conferences and consultant help kept the teams abreast of latest developments.
To clarify, looking for ideas to effectively encourage engagement and identify those people who really do have a passion and can help build the future of our business and capabilities.
KPMG1 has a great strategy and PwC has done initiatives that involve creating a team, problem statement, and solution with promised funding for the winner(s). So you’re solving a problem that your people see and identifying passionate individuals that want to “put in the effort.”
Thanks all. Thoughts on how to inspire participation? Forced innovation is rarely innovative but open participation typically results in the same small number of people and newer people feeling uncomfortable or unfit to join.
