Great thought. I heard few stories where startups failed when the founders were too obsessed with the idea and not willing to make changes. When you talk to the cofounder and if they start asking questions on the idea that make you uncomfortable, then you have a partner who is not an ‘Yes’ person. We need to remember even companies after becoming successful they change to the market or customer needs. You need a team that debates more on the idea but once a decision is make goes after it! Hope this is helpful!
Be more interested with the customer and their problems than your idea. Build several (low fidelity) possible solutions to that problem (including a low-fidelity version of your idea) and go with the one that customers want so much you find it difficult keep up with demand.
The criteria to look for in a cofounder is “is this person hypothesis driven and able to set goals” and “is this person willing to pivot to a new idea if we don’t meet our goals.” It’s not very likely you will “ruin” your idea through obsession, it’s much more likely that you won’t pivot when the signs are there through your obsession
