How do you explain those parts of your projects where you made decisions based on intuition and not necessarily some quotable textbook methodology?

I’m a rather ‘organic’ UXer who is often able to achieve impressive results just by following what makes sense to me instinctually.

Oftentimes I might unintentionally mimic the same steps as some methodology because it’s just what comes naturally to me.

I am an year experienced working in data field. I recently switched to another company where my mentor is has a Chinese English accent and that is very difficult to understand. Designers, have you ever been in a position where you’re pretty much taking the lead on all aspects of the project? Do design hiring managers want to see a nicely laid out resume with pretty columns and clean design, or does that not matter? I'm torn between different opinions and I'm not sure if my plain text resume is hurting my applications.

Any program recommendations for building decks for clients? Indesign is obviously the best IMO, but I’ve found it difficult for clients who don’t have a design background and want to make changes in the future. I feel keynote is a nightmare...wondering if I’m alone in this sentiment lol. I made it to the second round of a freelance job but when I let the recruiter know that the interview went well and to keep me posted on any next steps she never got back to me. I emailed her twice after that and still no response but she has been active on LinkedIn. Should I just assume I don’t have the job? Usually all my recruiters keep me posted or tell me whether or not I’m still in the running or if they’ve heard anything so this is very strange to me.

How do y’all get productive? My productive hours usually start after lunch 😅 the mornings have always been rough to me no matter what I do. Share your wisdom with me!

How do you know you’re a good designer? I get most of my ideas from being inspired by other work and just creating what I feel looks good. I know how to use design programs. But, I don’t know if that’s enough.

For all the senior designers - how do you stay inspired to keep leveling up in career-related skills?

I like my job and career, but often find myself avoiding learning new tools or skills (not things I actively need for my job, but ex: new Figma tools that I have no real use for in my job that requires self-guided learning, etc). I'd rather spend my free time on passion projects away from my computer, but I'm worried I'll fall behind in my career if I continue coasting on just YOE. Advice?
