How do you feel about use of excessive force (police brutality?) against protestors? Can we blame them for being on the edge and trying to err on the side of safety by approaching ALL protestors as if they are a threat since they can’t distinguish btw peaceful and non-peaceful protestors?

Do you understand what is happening right now? The police are doing things that would be considered war crimes internationally. They are arresting journalists on live television with no cause. They are attacking clearly identified medics treating protestors. They are shooting rubber bullets point blank at citizens (they are intended to hit the ground first and then hit the target on rebound). They are deploying tear gas (a war crime abroad, legal in the US for the police to use to "control crowds").

How about the retired black policeman shot and killed by a looter after going to check on the security of a friend’s store? Barely a mention in the “news.” Also have seen videos of protesters throwing bricks at point blank range into the backs of the heads of police. When the police respond, that portion of the video is posted on Instagram. Let outrage ensue. There are bad actors on both sides here. To think otherwise is ridiculous. Get spit at, have bottles and bricks thrown at you, and you stand down...

What if we approach all officers as if they are a threat to us?! They need to do better. And those officers afraid for their life need to request desk duty or resign if they cant do their job without harming civilians

They clearly had insufficient training in deescalation. Further showing the world how inept US cops are

If police aren’t trained well enough to assess a situation properly, they don’t need to be policing. We can absolutely blame them for treating AND ACTING like everyone is a threat. Being “on edge” doesn’t give you carte blanche to mace children or knock old men down. The very basic root of the entire problem is their inability to assess danger levels or a real threat.

Cont. - on the other hand what happened to George Floyd seems simply criminal... and the recent video that surfaced of a elderly man in Buffalo NY that was pushed also seems outrageous... when I see or read abt one thing, e.g., bombing by that midtown lawyer against a police car, I seem to sympathize with the police and sort of understand their difficulties but when I see another video of use of excessive force by police, I sympathize with the protestors... does anyone else feel this way?

P3 I'd agree that he wouldn't condone murder; neither would the people involved in these demonstrations. What happened to David Dorn was tragic but it was not part of the protests. But as for looting, while he may not have participated himself, he understood it. In the article shared above, he was quoted as saying: "The looting which is their principal feature serves many functions. It enables the most enraged and deprived Negro to take hold of consumer goods with the ease the white man does by using his purse. Often the Negro does not even want what he takes; he wants the experience of taking.”

Once rioting has started and they’re throwing things or lighting things on fire, I’m 100% okay with it. That’s no longer a peaceful protest

I am not a cop. I am a citizen. I understand and complybwithbthe rules of the state i live in. There are different laws that apply. Even in NJ, where only police can carry a gun, if an intruder comes into my home all i need to justify deadly force is that i believe my life or the lives of my wife or children are in danger. The intruder does not even have to have a gun. Its a threat assessment. Same applies for a looter if i am inside my store defending it. Of course i dont want to have to harm anyone, and the mere sight of my 20 gauge shotgun should deter anyone and have then turn and run, in which case i dont even have to fire the gun. Further, if i did have to fire it, the first 3 rounds are non lethal hsrd rubber balls as used by the Mosad on El Al airlines. Plan 1, scare them away, plan 2, immobilize then, last resor, well, no one ever wants to have to get to plan 3.

And I truly hope that all of you understand the difference in looters taking advantage of a situation and protestors for a cause. They are not one and the same.

How do you all think about allocating space to different work experiences in resume. 2 years at MBB post mba and 5 years in finance and tech prior to mba. I currently have 60-70% work experience section devoted to my work post MBA and the rest prior to MBA even. Does that seem reasonable? Just got into recruiting game and trying to understand best practices

At what salary did you start maxing your 401k? I just bumped my contribution up to 10% per month but would need to do 22% based on my current salary to hit the limit for the year. My husband is currently doing 8% of his salary to his 401k. We both max out our Roth IRA each year already.
