Discipline and massive getting over how tired I am after work hours. I put my emotions aside and schedule that time and hold myself accountable.

Helps to break down prep work in small steps and telling close confidantes your goal so there’s a seeming “public” accountability factor to doing those little things.

It’s work, but learning to just do a little can help. Also weekends. Hope that helps! You got this fam!

Find a way to reduce your workload at work. Ask for more resources. Delegate. Pretend to be busier than you actually are so you have energy at the start or end of the day for your personal goals.

Has anybody broken employee contact specifically for HCA?
On my contract, it states that I need to stay for 2 years with HCA. If I don't I will have to pay back 4K for the Nurse Residency Program.

Does anyone have experience with not paying them back?

P.S. I have been with HCA for one year, and I can not do it anymore.

I will be doing someheavy recruiting for Product Managers. Having a hard time with the existing team to persuade them that the uniqorns they are looking for dont exist. They are fixated that unless someone does not know to work agile or have tech specific experience they dont want to see them. Some of the questions also they have for candidates are an imitation of big corp companies like google, facebook etc. I am a big advocate on giving chances and trying to get through to them. Any ideas?

I am interviewing at another company and when they asked me what my pay expectations are, I asked them what their pay range and expectations were for this role. She let me know she was unable to tell me, yet still wanted me to give an answer. Do you believe that’s fair? How should I bring up pay expectations in my next round of interviews to ensure I am aware of what this position is offering so I don’t lowball or overshoot myself?

Is anyone here a SWE who started from scratch? No education or background in tech or IT, was working in an unrelated area, self taught through free online resources and ended up getting a job? I failed the non technical assessment for a bootcamp and that was my shot at finally learning with a place that could help me. That really discouraged me and made me feel like I’m just not smart enough to be working in tech at all, let alone as a SWE.

Any advice on transitioning from big4 strategy/ops trans to MBB strategy without an MBA?

Our Data and Analytics practice is hiring, DM if interested!

Hi folks. I’m a data scientist at a T2/B4 firm that does fairly technical work. I am prepping for interviews to transition to SWE-data at a big tech company and currently have a little over 1 yoe.

Since prep usually takes a while for swe, I have not started seriously applying. However, I am likely to receive an offer for 110-120k at another consulting firm. I was hoping to get some thoughts from other technical folks that made the transition. More in comments

Should I renege offer from MBB?

An MBA recent grad. I signed with MBB last year. However, I have always wanted to do tech PM. I couldn’t find PM job in Fall and just signed MBB offer I have. I recently got an FAANG offer. It’s PM function, hard to break in with consulting experience. I declined the new offer during interview stage and again after they gave me initial offer, but it is coming back with 80k more in annual compensation. It made me so torn!! Should I renege MBB offer?

Ex-consultant now in marketing. Used to be an avid follower here and got great insights on companies when trying to exit consulting so thought I’d try here for advice. Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? A company along those lines.
