I've tried writing a bullet or two on a sticky note about the goal I'm trying to accomplish and sticking it to my monitor. I then have a timer go off every 10-15 min to make sure I'm looking at the sticky and staying on goal.
Doesn't work all the time, but it has helped sometimes.
When I'm in the office, I try and wear headphones so my timers only ring in my ears. The sticky note either goes on a monitor or next to my mouse
Following as I have this issue as well. But for me, I usually try to set timers on things I’m working on.
Anywhere from 30-45 min for each timer
Remind myself that it's just work and I'm getting paid to focus on A,B,C. Then, I can focus on what interests me when I'm done. So, sort of the stick/carrot approach I guess.
Really struggled with this (+ the effects of some procrastination today). Got so far in the weeds on a project that I barely pulled myself out in time to finish preparing for our overall report out today. Ultimately, felt that I ended up being prepared in time, but my manager ended up deciding to cancel the presentation at the last minute anyway because she was worried I wasn't ready and it wouldn't be refined enough. Really really struggling that outcome. Really worried about how my manager will perceive me going forward 😔
