How do you get interviews? Feeling like I send out tons of apps and so rarely get interviews. Am I missing something?

When sending your application, custom write a fresh resume for each opening, tailoring it to the specific position being offered with emphasis on experience you have that they may be seeking. Triple check grammar, spelling, punctuation and all details. Make sure it is perfect. One page is preferred, but in no event should it be more than two pages. Do NOT broadcast the same cookie-cutter resume to multiple companies. Write an original cover letter and address it to the HR Director as well as the person for whom the new hire will be working/reporting to. Do not mention anything negative about any of your former employer(s) or co-worker(s), even if you hated them and they were devils. And do not include details about your past salary or what compensation you expect. Practice your "elevator speech;" e.g., a description of what you are interested in and why in less than two minutes, because they will inevitably ask you why you want to work for their firm. Be polite, give them the information they seek, but do not talk TOO much. Cut nervous, superfluous chit-chat. Good luck!!!

Feel free to DM me if you’d like specific advice and a resume/cover letter review. It’s hard to provide helpful feedback without more info from you. Sometimes people have typos, apply too late, have generic cover letters/resumes not related to the post, skills don’t align, etc. There’s a ton of reasons why you possibly might not be getting resumes.

Agree with all of the above but honestly, there’s nothing like networking, it’s always easier to get your resume looked at if someone at the company/firm elevates it out of the stack of other resumes.

Anyone available to do a quick mock phone interview with me over the weekend for a Manager role?

Two job opps at the moment. One I love the culture. Decent brand name (could do better) but absolutely loved everyone I interviewed with. The other is the best brand name in the business, but working somewhat busy season hours (not fully busy season hours like 80-90 a week but like 65) and okay with the culture. Basically don’t hate it don’t love it. Will very much accelerate my career way more than option 1. Thoughts?

How do you guys find time to apply, and prepare for interviews for exit opportunities? TIA for any pointers!

I had a lot of meetings/interviews with a service line and office I was thinking of transferring. The last time I had a call with a partner was two Fridays ago (10 days). And they told me they’ll discuss and let me know in the next week. I sent a follow up email after my meeting. But haven’t heard anything back. Is it a bad sign? Or should I try reaching out again?

Advice please: Clerking after litigating for 5 years. Escaped ID early for a small commercial firm. Got solid trial/hearing experience at both firms. Lateraled to top biglaw firm in area to escape toxic screamer partner after 2 yrs. Lateraled to another biglaw firm for family reasons. After 1.5 yrs, covid killed my practice so I clerked to pivot. Most firms are interested but say I’m too senior/too expensive. Others dislike my moves. Thoughts on possibilities as a 7th yr litigator? In FL fwiw.

Hi, Has anyone got interviewed for Hadoop+Spark+Scala profile in Capgemini???

Temporarily traveled to SC. Matched with a guy on app and we’ve been talking for about a month. We are planning to meet up in DC where I live. He wants to go to a Dallas game but I’m not trying to pay $400 for a ticket (not into football). I also feel selfish for not wanting to spend that amount since he will have to buy a flight ticket and pay for a hotel. It sucks because I just want a dinner date but he’s putting in a lot of time and money to meet me. Should I just buy the ticket?

WFH was hard but keeping fridge and cupboards from temptations (and still no booze for three months) has helped. It can be done--miss ice cream! but eating healthy in the 4-hour window. Two cups of black coffee/lots of water btw 9 pm and 5 pm. Doable folks. Don't give up. But am not exercising from home (just long walks 2x a week) due to intense work. I am facing one of the most wild shifts in mindset ever — i always thought i wanted to be this super accomplished career driven woman, but all i care about these days is making enough money to buy more real estate and retire asap. I feel like a hypocrite some days, and somedays i’m willing to sacrifice job interests for higher salary and just get to my goal of early retirement though real estate. Can someone please tell me i’m not going crazy :( this duality is weird to deal with.
