How do you go about references when applying to other jobs? I want to apply just to see my options but I don’t want anyone at my current job to think I’m not serious about my current position. Have you had issues asking for a reference from a coach or someone from a current job where no one even knows you’re applying elsewhere? I have a great relationship with my current manager and I know she’d give me a great reference but I don’t know if I’m ready to ask her for one.

Not easy to post but need some help. Got into consulting 3 years ago with Deloitte. Loved the work, had issues with politics and my onboarding process. Had an opportunity to move back to CA at a boutique late 2019 and took it. Long story short my timing was poor, the client I was billed to was acquired, and I was laid off.
