Headspace app for meditation. Remember that the anxiety is what makes you good at your job. But, if you can’t get a hold of it, that’s ok too. But, coping mechanisms such as meditation and exercise etc are helpful at least to me
Remind yourself that, while we have an important job, it’s not life or death, keeping things in perspective helps me. Also, 95% of clients are accommodating if you keep an open communication line.
When all else fails, distract yourself by calculating how fast you’d need to run to break through the double pane window on the 10th floor of the office.
Bottle it up until you have a mental breakdown
I'm going into my third year this August. My anxiety has been replaced by boredom and I'm just waiting to see if any of my bosses will even bother to fire me before the end of the year.
Quit, life is way too short to live in constantly damaging stress and there are way too many jobs out there. The world is really your oyster, think about it.
Walking away from what no longer is serving you and making you happy is a sign of strength, not weakness. That’s why I said, think about it
or maybe it could be a revelation that public accounting is not where you want to be 😊 sometimes know when to quit doesn’t always mean losing
You came to the wrong industry. The key survival in PA is to stay mediocre. Raises are all politics. Speaking from my experience, those expecting the highest raise every year (especially those at the lower level) will end up being disappointed and leave the firm.
Man OP no need to be rude to people for giving advice. People aren’t “weaksauce” for wanting to quit, they’re recognizing the job is an issue and suggesting to move onto something better. If it’s about the money, you wouldn’t be killing yourself in PA
Im pressuring myself. I want the highest raise possible every single year.
If you account for all the long hours one works and / or is expected to work, including client work, business development work, proposal work, constantly being compared to peers, etc and the stress and anxiety that it all comes with, and barely any meaningful bonuses, non existent 401k matches, etc it’s def a joke on you
If money is your motivation, then go to the Bay Area and work as a software developer. Big 4 salaries are a joke unless u make partner but by then most of your life would’ve already gone by
Read the book The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck
I’m quitting in September because the stress isn’t worth it and the career isn’t meaningful or serving me in life anymore. Doesn’t make me weak, just changing the course of my life so I can be happy instead of bored sad and stressed
I don’t feel anxiety. There are times of stress from deadlines, but I think that’s common.
Consider hiring a coach to help you work through it. Has done wonders for me. Also, make time for personal commitments, and try not to cancel them. There will always be more work and “urgent” deadlines.
Is the firm pressuring you to be a high performer or are you pressuring yourself? The firm just wants us to meet expectations I thought.... maybe you should evaluate where the pressure and anxiety are coming from.
You have to breath brother (or sister). Truth is that while it can be a pretty stressful job you can make a mistake and it won’t be the end of the world. If you do a good job it’s really a marathon. Pace yourself. Don’t burn yourself out. Try hard but don’t let it consume you. When your are young there will be greater variability in the capabilities of the people that you work for. Some will be brilliant, some will be dim wits. Some will be kind and some will be a thing but. Just do your best and remember nothing is more important that your your health and your loved ones. You can still kick ass and not have it consume you
At the end of the day the leadership of the firm really does care about its people. Although in an organization so big you can end up being a number. Try to align yourself with a quality boss. It’s really key to having a good experience
Just quit??
Thats weak sauce. Wow, some kind of help you guys are.
