I embrace the cravings because it’s good for my mental health...cannot forget about that
I should add the disclaimer that said cravings aren’t frequent. I also work local most of the time so I am fortunate enough to eat at home often.
Discipline isn't the answer you want, but its the only sustainable one. The thing is that you only need to have a lot of discipline once. Every subsequent day it gets easier as you build momentum. At some point you will relapse, and that is completely fine. Then you'll just muster up the discipline once more. Rinse and repeat, and soon you've built a habit which, despite unavoidable occasional relapses, is a net positive
This is right. When you are in the habit of eating right, there are far fewer cravings, and it makes it easier to make a thoughtful decision about when to indulge
Intermittent Fasting ... try it out 👍🏼
Intermittent fasting is a fancy term for “skipping breakfast”.
I used to eat like I saint M-Th so I could trash my body on the weekends without consequence.
Then I started consulting. Now I eat like shit on the expense account and eat like a saint any time I’m paying for my own meals.
Stock up on healthier snacks ahead of time. Lots of water and gum.

Liked how Novartis’ CEO, Vas Narasimhan framed it in his LinkedIn post: What we eat impacts our mood, our mental capabilities, our emotions, and our wakefulness. I ask myself—why am I eating? Is it for performance, for enjoyment, or because of anxiety?
When you eat junk food all these hormones go up the roof, endorphins, dopamine and serotonin. It’s science.
Download an app like lose it and think of calories like money in your bank account if you can’t afford it you don’t eat it.
I downloaded it! Will try it, like it so far, really user friendly

Keep nuts handy! When ever you crave have 3 or 4 of them. In a matter of mins the craving is gone and you ate something healthy 😇

If I'm craving salt = peanut butter

I’m gonna write this down. I had salt = chips and sweets = cookies so clearly had the wrong answer on this exam.

Try not to get hungry. Snack through the day. When you’re not starving, grilled chicken and veggies looks better than a pizza.
I follow several approaches.
I try early dinners and skip breakfast.
Avoid high sugar foods
No Sugar loaded drinks
High protein diet. More of sea food than red meat.
I'm very picky when I eat. If it's high calorie food, I only eat if I really like it.
But at the same time. If I love something I eat it.
Low carb high protein...I like quest protein bars and the Costco protein shakes. Start the morning with one or the other then go salads for lunch. Keep your water intake high. Sometimes you think you are hungry, but really are thirsty.
I find if I skip a meal and get really hungry, then the bad habits kick in. Manage trying to not get to that point. Has worked out for me. Down 50 lbs and sustain it. I find that my palette has changed over time...that also helps. Sodas, mixed drinks and even juices are very sweet. Good luck!
lost 40 lbs by better eatitng and have not put it back in four years. here are a few things that worked for me
- got down to a standard breakfast and lunch (oatmeal and salad for me). that took the decision making out of ordering process and didn't make me look around for craving options
- Didnot allow myself to get hungry. lunch was largely at a set time (as much as consulting life allowed). I noticed my mindless eating was all happening between reaching home and before dinner is ready. I started having something like a fruit or small salad from lunch before I headed home to get a better grasp on that
- allowed myself a small treat at end of the day - chocolate squares, dates etc.,
- used a food log and did calorie counting to know when I need to balance
Think about eating as work. You don’t work because you feel like it, you work because you have to.
One key is to not get extremely hungry to the point you want to eat whatever. Instead during regular intervals take some healthy snacks - in my diet it is either a handful of nuts, half a cup low fat plain yogurt or veggies and hummus. And if I get to the point where I get cravings - I eat an egg or two. I love eggs. So find that to go back up healthy snack that you like.
