I’m sure it would be effective but they should be able to figure out if you’d be a good fit from your resume, portfolio, any additional samples of work and your interviews. But just my opinion.
Called SPEC work. This has been a big problem in the design world for many years but pops up in different capacities. Here’s AIGA’s stance. https://www.aiga.org/position-spec-work
Design tests are kind of a waste of time. All of the times I’ve done one I’ve been ghosted with no pay. I’m going to refuse to do one moving forward. My portfolio will speak for itself.
I think design tests and whiteboard challenges are reasonable. I’ve been hired from an interview that included those. They’re more about getting a sense of the way you think through a problem and less about actually producing work. Take home tests, as someone else mentioned, hard pass.
I don’t see a problem with simple tests like here’s the style guide, make a social ad. I’ve done several of these to get the job. I designed a landing page once and that seemed like too much.
I DESPISE them. That being said I’ve caved and have done them for literally every single post-grad job I’ve had in my career up until I hit CD. I do think they’re more effective for hires with 0-2 years of experience just to test actual proficiencies in real world applications, which is the only time I’ve given them out.
Design tests and whiteboarding challenges during the interview are ok. Take home design tests... nah man. How can I do that while I’m working a full time job?
Would Publicis Sapient MC practice have exit ops at the same level as Big 4? Or is their brand name closer to Tier 2 strategy consulting firms and MBB?
What are the leave policy in KPMG, can we take long leaves on year end, like 10-15 leaves at a strech. Kpmg global service or kpmg india which one is better?
wasted my time doing many design challenges. The company that gave me the best offer only needed my portfolio.
You would think the portfolio speaks for itself but I guess sometimes people make a lot of claims about what they did so they need more proof 🤷🏽♀️
Nope. And if a company is asking you for one they better pay you for your time.

Recently did a free design test for a tiny company who ended up ghosting me 🙃 0/10, would not lick that boot again 🙃

Seriously. I spent a whole week taking all my spare time to work on one. Ended up using it in my portfolio and helped me snag a new job🤷🏿♂️
Being unemployed I feel we have to partake. Has anyone said no and still got hired? Or paid?
No. Your book, experience, and interview(s) should speak for themselves.
Get PAID for your time.
if they don’t pay... it’s a huge red flag.
