How do you guys go about making new friends? The common belief is that as you get older, the harder it is to make friends and I’m starting to agree. I’m 27, don’t have any friends/social circle where I currently live and I think it’s starting to affect my mental health.

This is definitely true. So many of my friends from high school/college and even post-college have either settled down and just aren’t available for regular social activities or have moved to new cities. I’m still friends with them but it’s just group chats/snaps and then mayyybe an annual gathering. It’s nice to have those, but I feel like I need more activity. As more people settle down and move out of my city, I have a feeling that it’s just going to get more difficult...

Hey! It’s hard - especially in COVID. I’m moving to a new city in a month and my plan is to just be as open as possible. I’m planning on joining a running group, reaching out to friends of friends for introductions, chatting up bartenders and baristas, and don’t discount bumble BFF! It feels awkward at first, but is definitely worth it :) As we get older, we stop having ready made friend groups. But at the benefit of this, everyone you have in your life at this stage is someone you actively choose to have there and brings benefit vs. when you were younger and had friends simply due to proximity rather than shared interests.

Oh I will not lie to you, it sucks. This is something like my 15th city and it’s gotten harder and harder - but you’ll be surprised how many people are in the same boat and looking for the same thing you are!!

True OP, I really feel an empty space and kind of regret all the times I may have tried..to keep them in my life.. I do miss having a friend.. To discuss anything random. To plan my trips with.. to be called and shared the weirdest of problems.. :)

Clubs (eg check local bookstore for book clubs, local sports league) Meetup groups Church Friends of friends (hey Atlanta friend, I’m moving to Charlotte, do you know anyone there who I should meet?) College alumni group / networking Work Volunteering Skills classes (pottery class, kayaking class....) It’s harder with covid but possible. Having something in common helps. You have to be really persistent in seeking opportunities to meet people and to them follow up.

Thanks for sharing! Appreciate it.

Have you heard of Bumble BFF? It allows you to connect with other people in the area looking for friends (my friend used it in Seattle with success). Covid also does make things harder to make NEW friends. What area are you in?

Hi! I’m in Dallas. Although cause of covid I’ve been between Dallas and Austin.

Feel the same. It’s inhuman to not have communities - being confined during this time to different degrees. My mental health is at an all time low.

Thank you, it’s a great point! I use headspace but hadn’t recently. Did a session today and it really helped!

I’ve gotten emails lately talking about how we are hiring at Accenture and asking us to tap into our networks, so figured I’d post on here. Needs being called out can be seen in the picture. I can’t promise I’ll respond to everything but if anyone wants a referral feel free to reach out. Also, I work in healthcare and I’ve gotten separate emails from leadership about how we need to hire more people there too.

I’m having a hard time staying motivated lately. Really apathetic about everything. Feels like I’m falling into a bad depressive slump. I’m getting more and more behind on work because I just can’t sustain focus for longer than a couple hours at a time. There’s no one to shift my workload to, and as much as the legal industry talks about lawyer mental health, it’s still a taboo topic. I know it’s the pandemic causing this downswing, but I don’t know how to shake myself out of this rut.

He makes good money and, personally, I feel like at some point you are paid to deal with stress from clients and such. This has been going on for about 9 months. I had him go to the *cont below*

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks
