How do you handle a CD that overrides everything to do with web/UX/UI for their own opinions and tastes? A few months ago the same CD admitted to having no new web knowledge since the mid 90's...

My team and I have provided research/data backed design choices but our CD could care less. We present our ideas in a respectful manner but it seems he interprets it as a threat to his authority. It makes for a frustrating work environment and our products aren't nearly as successful as they could be.

Interested in hearing how others have dealt with this. I’ve had a cd and cmo override ux/ui and research which negatively impacted site usage.

Where’s the accountability for A/B testing? And how many tests is your team responsible for each month/or sprint? If these aren’t established, perhaps you could try to persuade implementing a testing schedule where the masses vote on the next testing iteration?

Oof. That really complicates things. Are you to the point where you’re considering looking elsewhere because of the toxicity emanating from CD/co-owner punk? These details you share are definitely worth sharing in an exit-interview if not before then.

Toxicity stemming from apathetic coworkers who either control or influence the biz is tough. I wish I could offer some solution, but I’m at the point in my career where I won’t stand for it - no one should have to. If there are a handful of people that feel the same, perhaps an anonymous mediation between him & HR can take place. That way you & your coworkers can submit facts to HR but ask to remain anon while HR mediates through this situation. Best I got. I’d be very interested to hear how things work out! I’m rooting for you!💪

When you say data backed design, do you mean you have run AB tests on your site already and have proven that they were statistically significant? If not then this would be the next step.

The problem with taking external research for other brands is that it might not be an apples to apples replacement per se on your site. That may be the reason why your CD is hesitant - mostly because if it doesn’t help then it falls on him/her, so it’s easier for him/her to just say no if there is risk.

Do you ever just have a moment and wonder how some people make it through the day? We had an interview scheduled today for an executive assistant role. Not an internship… This young lady, probably in her mid to late ’20s showed up with her mother and at first, I thought it weird but maybe she is her ride. No, the mother comes into the interview sits down, and answers most of the questions. I didn’t know how to cut the process off, so I told them we would be in touch and the mother didn’t seem to like that answer and left in a huff!! Like I am sorry for wasting your time lady.

What is the advice on what feedback to leave for a peer who really sucks at everything y'all have worked together on? It's about the time where everyone on my team requests feedback from each other and I'm nervous for it coming up. My manager knows that everything I've worked w her on I end up doing 90% of the work when it's meant to be split so it is a known issue. We're both at level 3 so are genuinely peers. How should I deal with a problematic supervisor? They are nitpicking on even quality work. And often, I’m getting the blame for not identifying other paralegals mistakes, when (from what I can see), the other paralegals simply get told “ohh it’s okay don’t worry”.

Should I raise this as I’m concerned about the impression my manager is leaving on the partners or will I be considered as someone who can’t deal with criticism?
