God I don’t even make plans for Mon-Thurs. They need to give you a break but you also need to be firm. Why not say certain nights are off limits or that you need notice and advance agreement to stuff on weeknights?

My spouse sort of understands how drained I am and why, but does NOT get that I can’t push back against the demands like he does. When a partner asks for a draft by Thursday, I can’t say, “No, I’m completely overwhelmed with other work this week, so I’ll have to get that to you on Monday,” when we have a court deadline on Wednesday. Similarly, I can’t just drop the ball on cases that I’m running to prove a point, even if it seems totally unfair that I’m handling so many matters compared to my peers. It would literally be malpractice.
