Duct tape
And if duct tape fails ask him to send it via email in bullet points. 😃
Ive had a similar situation with a colleague that asked one two many questions a day when clearly I am constantly busy, on fridays calling my phone number if I was offline having lunch and IMing me too many times while I was in meetings. I always tried to accommodate him but it was exhausting, I felt like I had to explain everything. I started making jokes like saying that I was going to put a take-a-number dispenser with a max of ten questions per day at my desk, some times I would hide in empty cubicles so I wouldn't be interrupted. Then I realized that I don't have to make myself available every time he needed something so I started ignoring his calls and IM's when I was busy. He started looking for alternate people to answer his questions and now is not as bad as it used to.
Walk away
Headphones. Just pretend your on a call.
Unfortunately, our offices are next to each other...so he'll just follow me and keep talking...and we have a daily touch point. Fml😩
I've tried. I'll cut him off when he goes into detail, but then he keeps trying to talk over me. Or he'll circle back to it after we've moved onto the next topic. Trying to figure out how to deal with it without being a bitch....
I'm not nice enough to provide any more solutions. Best of luck
Unfortunately, it's not even a situation where he's asking questions. I can't handle questions. I'm in a position where I have to get daily updates from him,and while giving these updates he tends to go into granular details and give me a blow by blow of his day, even though I've told him "high level" multiple times. Pretty sure that the managers have realized this too...is it bad that I'm hoping that he'll be rolled off?
Set him on a timer. If he doesn't get the important details out in 15 min, tell him you're done and then go into your talking points. Set meetings immediately afterwards. He'll learn to meet the constraints
Tell him to send an email
Maybe tell him, directly, that you don't need so much detail, just key points?
