A good friend of mine lagged at 25, and at 35 - when the rest of us are taking time out to have kids - she is storming ahead. You will catch up in time!
Working moms are the shit!!! You guys are on point with priorities and great at time management. No bull shit. Straight to the point. I think parents in general have that sense of prioritization, but with working moms, especially new moms I find to be very efficient or at least find efficiencies in complex problems.
I think this is fair. I realized at my firm no women at the senior level were becoming moms. They all worked hard to get promoted to M before having kids and being ok w the delayed promotion to the next level
I believe there’s no such thing as, the right time to have kids, have them early in your career, mid career or later in your career. Everyone’s career journey is different some make MD in 8 years others in 25 years. Family first, do what makes sense for your family, and don’t compare yourself to others. Comparison is the robber of all joy. I truly believe your career aspirations will come to fruition despite when you decide to have children.
Agree with all of this. I got layed off due to my pregnancy (huge lawsuit) and yeah, it put me “behind” time wise, but I came out ahead (financially) 😉
We call this the "compare and despair" phenomenon. It's especially hard when there's a clear promotion and rank system so you can compare easily. Try to use your own goals and values as a benchmark, talk to senior leaders about your professional goals, and remember that there will be different seasons of your life and career. Hope that helps!
