How do you handle recruiter inbound calls?

I’m getting bombarded with LinkedIn recruiter requests to apply for/chat about open positions (FP&A, 5YOE). I’m happy in my current role, and not necessarily looking, but would move for the right bump in pay.

How should I strategically frame to recruiters calling/DMing/Emailing me that “I’m happy in my current role and would only be interested in moving for $X without wasting anyone’s time formally interviewing?

My standard copy/paste response:

Hi [recruiter name],

Thanks for reaching out about this opportunity. Do you have the technical job requirements and compensation information that you can send over? I want to make sure my background and experience align to the role before I take up a lot of your time.
- - -

I routinely get ~4-6 lazy inbound messages for roles that don’t remotely align to my background technically or are paycuts of at least 30%. I’m open to something compelling but I have found most recruiters sending me inbound leads are playing the numbers game and not qualifying me for the role at all before sending.

I love that!!

I’m in the same boat. I always ask for salary (and remote/hybrid) over message before I will continue the conversation. If they don’t tell me, probably not somewhere I want to work anyway.

Because you are happy in your current role, you’ve got nothing to lose with a recruiter. Shot for the stars regarding your pay range and see what happens. I don’t think you need to be strategic about it.

Thanks for the feedback — I agree, I just know that most HR/recruiting related conversations generally have some sort of formula or strategy in what to say when. I’ll go into this week’s call upfront about my salary expectations and see how it pans out.

Thanks!

“What’s the pay?”

I felt that way when I was happy in my role in FP&A, lot’s of opportunity out there and the grass is not always greener on the other side.
I always asked my 1 non-negotiable question (mine was location), and generally ended the conversation very quickly and amicably.

Does the position they’re reaching out about not have a salary range posted?

The specific call I have scheduled for this week does not have a posted range. At a F500, I know what I imagine their range to be, and I know I’m likely already exceeding the ceiling on that range, but I’m taking the call just to sus it out.

Ask for the salary range forst

Internal or external?

Internal - ask for JD (preferably a link to the actual job posting) and anticipated base/bonus/equity range, If I dig what I see, I'll have that "get to know you" call.

External - go away.

Be up front with recruiters about the salary you are looking for (but not your history). They’re also trying not to waste their time when they have quotas to hit. BUT Recruiters are also a really good resource for market information. They are ideally trying to call 25-30 other ppl /week who are doing the same things you are doing so they pick up some interesting info from their calls. Def say “I’ll only move for this $$$” and Keep the ones you have a connection with in your back pocket, you never know when you may need one.

Sales Manager vs International Manager or should it be something else?

Being remote, and managing an international remote team, I would like to know what should be my job title? Any idea or professionals that I may contact, please?

Thank you.
