You say, “Partner, I understand you are upset and (assuming it’s valid) I made a mistake for which I apologize and will work on fixing. However I do not appreciate you yelling and swearing at me."
If it continues, you go to another Partner and/or HR and share this with them.
The only thing I’d consider is whether he/she yelled at you or just yelled. Sometimes people have strong reaction or swear but it’s not necessarily directed at anyone. You can still share you don’t appreciate that behavior regardless , but I think it’s a bit different then him going, “OP, you’re a piece of shit and I will fire you.”
Profanity is unnecessary and unprofessional but did you do something to warrant potentially being rolled off?
No matter the situation no one has the right to treat anyone that way especially in a work environment. I would have a blank conversation with the partner and start looking for another project because obviously current one is not a fit!
If you are easily offended by profanity, you need to reassess and pick and choose your battles. If the partner called you a cuss word, that’s different vs the partner just cussing, which is NBD. Which was it?
