Invite them to a serious meeting and surprise them with a cake celebrating their efforts. Have a small party and have some fun 🤩 with the team! Make a small speech about how you appreciate their work and tough times won’t last!
I have recurring touchpoints to ensure not only project success, but to make sure team members are checking their own boxes in terms of building skills that align with where they want to be.
I also highly encourage taking mental health leave or afternoons early if things are light. I encourage us to be transparent with one another in terms of everything we have on our plates and share availability to help them if they are against a tight deadline. We succeed as a team, and sometimes we need to lift eachother up.
I attempt to help my team by asking about their dreams and projects outside of work. I find this allows us to acknowledge we have lives and aspirations outside of work, and puts the work struggles into perspective.
I track utilization and when someone is being heavily utilized, I arrange respite leave and try to add members to the teams where util is really high. If they are the only one heavy, I try to give them tips on how to push work out to the team.
