depends what the injury/sickness is. can you find something low impact to do ?
I got my moderna vaccine and felt sick the day after. I still went to my home gym and did a yin yoga class from my basement and went on a mile walk with my husband and dog. Mentally it felt like a lot of work and I bounced back the next day with a 5 mile run.
I read that if the sickness is limited to your head (headache, runny nose, sore throat) but not in your chest (chest congestion, trouble breathing) you are good to keep working out.

yes - above the neck is generally fine.
I had 2 surgeries in the past 8 months and have still managed to make progress overall by reminding myself that any temporary set backs are super short in comparison to a life long fitness journey regardless of how demoralizing they may feel in the moment. You can bounce back from anything as long as you stay consistent and trust the process!
I just modified my routine until I ruptured a ligament in 2019. I had to wait due to covid to have reconstruction done and just now got cleared for full activity. Most things can be worked around.

Take the appropriate amount of rest and then. Do modified workouts. Even just carving out time to walk helps keep you active and reserves that time for working out. Or if it's a leg injury, you can up your stationary weight training.
Most injuries don't knock you out for too long as physical therapy is usually recommended to be started pretty soon after. Just make sure you are being smart and checking in with a doctor if needed.
