Agreed. The paralegals will send me plenty of reminders anyway..
Although not currently big law, I used (and continue to use) a combination of a handwritten journal/to do list and one note. One note is fir meeting notes, etc. handwritten journal starts a new page a day and has a general to do with notes added if random items pop up. Everything is organized by client/engagement. I generally have 10-12 projects going on at once and some with a couple work streams.
Live and die by the outlook calendar
I get my whole teams cases on my calendar so I end up missing my cases entries. Maybe I just need to color code them
OneNote! You can create a different tab for each matter, and then pages within the tab for different notes categories. My “Status Calls” page for each matter is absolutely essential. I also keep running to do lists in a separate “home” tab. I usually keep a list of items for the day, for the week, and for next week. Love my system!
oh i like this idea, i’m gonna try it!

I use the tasks bar in outlook. I create a task titled “to do” - there, I have EACH case and every single deadline that’s on calendar. If I get a status conference date, I put that deadline in there, and add internal deadlines for when I want to draft the status conf statement, get a draft to the partner, etc. motion deadline? Add internal deadlines for following up with the client to get info/docs, deadline to have draft 1 complete, etc.
Once I have all deadlines for each case in my “to do” task, I then create individual tasks for each case. That way I can see tasks by day but also by case (in my to do task list).
This might not make sense lol, but it works for me and helps soothe my OCD brain.
I use Workflowy and time block my day as best I can. I also making a weekly plan each week on what I want to accomplish. I use OneNote for keeping notes for cases all in one place. Trello is another tool that some people use.
I recommend getting your tasks outside of your email inbox. I often paste all necessary info for a task in a one note page and create a to-do for that item. So when it’s time to execute you just go to the page and do the task. I spend more time than average organizing my work, but overall it makes me more efficient and it’s a more enjoyable way to work I’ve found.
I’ll have to check out workflowy
I like taking notes on meetings in an email. You can easily send it to someone else at the meeting (the partner) and it’s easy to search for in outlook.
