Toxic c-suite is always a sign to run for me. I was at an agency like this for five years. Started out normal, but as the c-suite grew it turned into a high-school clique complete with in-fighting and bullying. Middle managers were constantly caught in the crossfire. Last two years (partially during 2020) were an emotional hell. I still have trauma. I’d get out.
Rising Star
It’s a fine line between giving it enough time to see if it’s just acclimation and getting stuck in something awful.
Rising Star
But I think you know what you’ve stumbled on.
Do you feel the culture and c suite are toxic or are you just hearing things? Don’t let gossip bring you down. You just got there, keep open ears but I would take things with a grain of salt and form your own opinions with time.
👆🏾This. Always form your own opinions. What works for some. Might not work for others. But keep the information you have in the back of your mind.
I’d say give it another month to try and find some redeeming qualities. But if you gotta jump, then jump.
I feel like the C Suite is always crazy and dramatic when you get too close. The glorifying burnout thing is a big red flag personally.
I spent stints of 6-8 months at two companies that I hated & caused me a ton of trauma. Those were 4-6 years ago, and I don’t list them on my resume. I only list years (months) on my resume, so it doesn’t look like I had a massive gap between the jobs that I stayed with.
Long story short… the cost to my health and sanity wasn’t worth it in the long run. The 4-6 months that I stuck around waiting to see if I could handle it had a really big negative impact.
Last thing I’ll say…. Sometimes there are natural growing pains of joining a company. If you have an immediate team that will protect and nurture you, they may help make it worthwhile.
