How do you know ageism is happening to you? I've been interviewing ppl a lot the past couple of months so I think I know what a good resume looks like because I've seen hundreds of them. I'm looking for a new role myself and have applied to a few things that if I were the hiring mgr I'd prob want to talk to me but I'm not getting replies. I'm wondering if I should do an experiment and remove ~10-15 yrs of job history and the year I graduated and see if it makes a difference. Thoughts??

I would remove the year you graduated - unless your age is an asset for that particular position, it’s unnecessary

I’d be interested in other’s thoughts on ‘applying for jobs’. My own experience / opinion is that it’s a bit of a waste of time. Either hiring managers are overwhelmed by resumes and / or the role is already earmarked for an internal candidate and is just being advertised for compliance purposes. So this is a long way of saying I would be careful about making any assumptions about your attractiveness in the marketplace on the basis of a few cold applications.

I’ve never negotiated my salary but want to be sure I’m being paid fairly for this site merchandiser role! TIA

Any of you switch to a data analyst or other more “tech” type role? Or just a career change that isn’t accounting?

I’m a tax manager with over 10 years of experience (5 years public, 4 in industry, and back to public for 3 but in “transformation”). I got burnt out during covid and took a break from work. And now I’m trying to decide if I want to take a big pay cut and start over in a data analytics role. Just feeling sort of lost 😭

Considering leaving a startup for a new role. Next week my first batch of options reach their cliff. Last year around this time the new price was set (my strike price = current price).

Does it make sense to exercise the options even if I would likely have to sell within 90 days (assuming I take the new job)? Apart from the headache of buying and selling, and the possibility that the price doesn’t change, anything else I should consider? First time exercising stock options.

Feel like this is a silly question, but can’t seem to find an answer: does google treat current comp as a competing offer? The recruiter told me the target comp and I told them that was significantly below where I currently am. They said there may be some room to adjust what they quoted me but I don’t want to waste time interviewing if they’re not going to at least beat my current comp by a decent bit

Most likely getting fired, tips on how to find a job ASAP? I made a pretty big mistake that required supplemental filings with government offices to fix (missed some items when reviewing/comparing long lists of things across 20-30 years). It’s fixable and the client isn’t really getting hurt by this (worst case signing gets delayed), but my anxiety is telling me to prepare for the worst. Can I ask for extra time at the firm to find a new job (so I wasn’t “fired”)? Or should I go for severance?

Hey all!

I’m considering making a move to TX from Atlanta, and have the ability to work anywhere with my job. I’m looking to explore Austin and San Antonio and would want to lease/AirBnB for at least a year before I consider buying a condo/home shortly after.

Does anyone have any recommendations on which areas would be good to live in? I’m looking for an urban area with close proximity to stores and markets. I also enjoy going to social outings (i.e. Latin dancing) occasionally. TIA!

My observation is that it is hard for consulting partners to land the quality public or private board roles everyone naturally targets. Despite there being a significant amount of exceptional talent that could be deployed, there is a big bias against consultants. Everyone wants “operators,” but I feel every board could also benefit from one current or former consulting partner. But sadly, that’s not the way the external world looks at things...
