Websites like this, networking, taking courses, career coaching have helped me tremendously. Without a third party to tell me what exactly my strengths and weaknesses are so that I can address gaps, I was always left second-guessing myself.
So true! I asked a trusted colleague this recently and am so thankful for her honest insight.
Seek places where you might feel worthless. Sounds toxic lol, but you’ll find that in those places your ideas are still valuable - just don’t stay for too long if you’re continuously ignored. Also, exercise your boundaries. Know that you can do more but only if you are sufficiently compensated/acknowledged for your work.
Exercising boundaries is a tough but necessary tying to do. Love this!
It sounds like you may need to talk to a career coach or a therapist. Investigate what makes you feel valued, and try to replicate that feeling in the workplace. Practicing advocating for yourself starts with trusting yourself and keeping promises to yourself.
Therapist for sure! I've been telling my SO I need one. Might be time to invest in one. How do you go about this?
It's just a matter of self appreciation and confidence. But of course it must be based on results as well.
Ohhh self appreciation. That's a good one to reflect on!
There are a plethora of self-help books nowadays that could aid you. Recognize your strengths and accomplishments and reward yourself for them. You'll get used to it in a jiffy and start raising your standards for what you think you deserve. Start with complimenting yourself in the mirror everyday. Be nice to yourself.
I love this idea of affirmations. I have 2 littles (3 yrs and 1 yr) so this could be a good thing for them to see me do. Thank you! Are there any particular books that stand out for you?
