How do you know your value? Throughout my 10 yrs of being in a professional setting, I've had colleagues from various places of employment say, I don't think you know your worth. You're under valued, etc. What exercises/tools have helped you realize your worth and effectively advocate for it? TIA!

It took me a long time to move past imposter syndrome and realize that I was good at what I did. I would try to sit down everyday after work and either write or reflect on ways you did well. Eventually, after reflecting on it all the time, I realized that I was good at my job, deserved to be paid fairly, and that the only person who really doubted my abilities was me.

Imposter syndrome hits me in every aspect of life! Hobbies that I want to turn into side hustles, parenthood, religious life, work life. Such a battle! I love the reflection idea. I picked up an extra notebook from work to start this.

Honestly, the biggest thing for me is to keep applying to places, and stay active on LinkedIn so recruiter offers can come in. I took a pretty decent pay bump after 3 years of stagnating pay...but after 6 months in a new role, I'm getting offers with 10-20% higher!! It's kinda crazy, but really just staying active in the job market makes a huge difference

Congrats!!! That's great to be seemed after! I definitely need to up my LinkedIn game. My resume is not as quantifiable as it could be and I need to engage more with posts. Has anyone heard how much engagement is recommended per given time period?

For me, it's been all about sitting and being mindful about everything I do at work. I've had positions where I make just enough considering my workload, but in other places I've had to sit down with pen and paper, make a list of all my duties, and then have a hard chat with my boss letting them know that if they can't match my skill set, I'm out.

like

That's a great idea. Unfortunately, my place of business has been understaffed for months so I've been grinding much more (longer and harder). I'm now in a decent spot to do some reflecting.

The way I found my values by printing my job description and highlighting the things that I do, and then I printed the next level of job description and I highlighted the things I do take that to HR and take that to yourself personal development and find a position that pays you at a higher rate. If you’re doing more than 50% of the job in the next level that you’re in then you were under valued.

That's a great idea! Thank you!

For me it was attending professional development trainings. Gaining extra knowledge helped me boost my self-esteem. It all starts with self-esteem in my opinion. Higher self-esteem means higher self-worth.

I had a hiring manager ask me to apply for a job BUT a couple days later got an automated 'we're not moving along with your application.' I'm not sure whether that was the hiring manager deciding not to move on after seeing my resume or if it was the recruiter weeding me out without consulting with the hiring manager. Should I message the hiring manager? What should I say?

Hello! I’m currently a Administrative assistant now working at a major medical system in Baltimore. I’ve previously worked for 10 years as a medical assistant in a variety of specialties and primary care. Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit stuck as to my next step. Part of me want to go into management, another part is saying go get your RN, and the other is saying go into Social Work. I’m all over the place. Any ideas? And how would I be able to cross over to management?

Physical therapists…
What city do you practice in? How many years of experience? Current salary? What setting do you practice in? What are the differences in pay between different settings in your area (ie. outpatient ortho versus home care).
Personally I practice out patient ortho in Rochester, NY making $65,000 annually with a good benefit package. 6 years of exp. And not entirely sure how much more I could make in home care/other settings.
