Workbook.com and Reps.
My favorite way is to find a couple I like for the project and then present those to an art buyer/producer and let them recommend a few more for me to look at. They usually have great recommendations.
We have producers give us a range of options, but i also like to bring in people I like off IG
I hear you on that. I’m pretty junior and that’s how I was told my shop went about it, it’s never been out of laziness or anything.
I like getting rep/ buyers to send options as well as reco’s from AD’s whose opinions and work I respect.
Instagram, through other work they’ve done that you like, etc.
I find it’s usually way quicker if I spend a couple hours on Behance and Pinterest. It’s easier to nail down the exact style I am after. Rep/art buyer is helpful too, but I find usually when there’s also motion/animation involved.
Reach out to your EP and ask for suggestions. Part of the search is finding people with the right talent but also the right fit as a production partner.
Internet, word of mouth, any social mocial media but primarily Instagram. But what type of photographer are you looking for specifically? There's so many specific specialties (commercial, lifestyle, sports, influencer, landscape, drone operators, etc).
Also, here's a shameless solicit 🙌

Not looking for anything in particular right now — more broadly curious to hear from other creatives on what’s important to them when choosing partners (having responsibility for “uncovering” the talent they want to work with vs. choosing from options presented to them by an art producer or rep etc) and where they prefer to look
Certainly not the flood of promo emails that fill my inbox. They used to send out a printed piece. I empathize that budgets and thus their income is not what it once was so printing may be too pricey. But it’s not fair to bombard us with the emails.
Be a student of the game. This is your profession, after all. (Not being mean here, just truthful). Check out the trades pubs, read the credits (especially). Keep some bookmarks, OneNotes, GoogleKeep, heck - use Pinterest. Whatever works for you. Reach out, too. Get on the newsletters - from reps or companies. It’s trains your eye.
Asking your EP is good too (saw that above). But don’t always rely on him/her. We wanted to see you develop a network. (Good or bad, hopefully not bad!). I used to suggest 1, maybe 2 - but always told my Assoc or Mid-level producers to go find the 3rd or 4th on their own.
I take reccos from everywhere. I have no ego about “discovering” the person and would rather have a trusted resource than break a new talent.
