This may gross some people out. I put on a bathing suit and get in the tub with my dog. I adopted him from the shelter and he was very scared. Occasionally we just sat in warm water and I hand fed him his kibble to get home comfortable.
The image of you chilling in the tub with your pup is the cutest thing ever. I love it!
I adopted my little guy as a puppy and starting giving him baths ASAP. He now just jumps in when I ask him. I think he associates it with the fun things he does where he gets super dirty (beach, certain dog parks), so he puts up with it. He does enjoy his post-bath zoomies and rubbing his body on our carpet.
Lick mat with peanut butter! Also mine hates baths and the groomer and I just don’t bathe him a lot. He doesn’t smell and his coat is beautiful. Our last golden was prone to dry skin so we tried to minimize baths anyways. I do brush him and use a conditioning foam.
Put him in the tub without water. Get him accustomed to it, feed him his dinner in there if you really want him to get used to it. Start adding the water after he’s in the tub slowly and don’t over do it.
Yes! My dog doesn’t want to be submerged. I don’t have a removable shower head so I bought a silly thing on Amazon called the Rinseroo and bath time goes great now. It’s just a hose that attaches to the shower head, not a sprayer.
Mine hates water. And there's nothing we can do to get him to love it. We've tried everything. He will spit out the highest value treats if given during bath time.
So we just get in the tub with him, and use a hand shower to bathe him. There's a lot of positive affirmations and pets that he gets for tolerating the bath.
He loves being dried with the hairdryer, so that's a plus. And gets a nice chew afterwards to settle down.
I could only wash my dog in a "dog wash" facility where they have the raised bathtub with a harness. I brought lots of treats to give her during the bath. They had stairs into the bathtub but she won't go on them, I have to pick her up and put her in there. She likes to get as close as possible to me during the bath so I try to use my free hand to hug her to make her feel more safe. (The facility provides plastic aprons so you don't get completely wet)
Our dog in a dog wash is a source of entertainment for everyone in the store😂 he sings the song of his people for the entire duration we're there. And he's a ACD, so the songs are more thumbnails on chalkboard than a serenade.
Your dog is super cute! You have to make bath time a positive experience and it can take time so don’t get discouraged! Since your dog is not very food motivated you first need to figure out what your dog really likes it can be food, toys, a person etc. Take a few minutes out of your day to have your dog get comfortable in the area where you will be bathing them you can just sit in the area and offer treats or play with them do whatever makes them comfortable and assure them everything is okay. You want to to get to the point that your dog will follow you into the area willingly. Next step would be to get them comfortable in the bath or shower. Like I said you want them to willingly walk in. You do not want to put them in the bath with water or just turn the water on because you can scare them especially if they already have a fear of water or just getting a bath. The more comfortable they get you then start to introduce the water TAKE IT SLOW. Using positive reinforcement with your dog will help with a lot of things. These things take time so working with your dog everyday will be the only way they will get better! I hope this helps! If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask!

Not even for peanut butter? Lol we let our puppy like peanut butter during baths and of course lots of words of affirmation and snuggles afterwards so he can relate the two
PB on the walls of the tub/shower FTW! Works almost every time, though when we are done and he is wet, he is a little mad at me for about a half hour. He seems to get over it when he gets extra attention when he is dry and not so smelly haha
following because i’ve had the same issue for a year now and nothing seems to work. i’ve just kinda accepted it’s gonna be an unpleasant experience for both of us
Putting a couple of tennis balls in the bath works well for us!
Have you tried putting toys/treats in the bathroom to associate that area with positive things, not just baths?
Take a bath with him? 🤷🏻♀️

I already do that lol

Mine still don’t love it but they hate it less. I give them baths on the patio and I don’t dunk them in water. I use a hose with a shower / sprinkler setting so it’s more pleasant for them. They both love the grooming gloves so I use that when shampooing them and they love that part of it. They also love getting toweled off. Just try to make a big deal of the parts they may enjoy ☺️ and treats after bath time is ok.

It helps mine to put them in the tub without water filled up, and then use a pitcher of water to wash them in like, three diff sections from the tail upward, so the face is the last thing that gets wet. I think she’s started to learn that as soon as the bad part is done, she can get out, so she’s more cooperative. Also, when I first got her, I’d only turn the water on when I needed to refill the pitcher. I think the scariest part is the water noise!
Try putting him in the bath with no water first. Once he is comfortable with that , get the bottom of the tub wet and do the same. Once he gets used to that, have the water running and just get him in there. He doesn’t have to touch it or get close to it just get him used to the sound and the environment. Once he can do this comfortably have him get in there and slowly get water on him. This allows him to get used to each environment on a small scale before shoving him into the entire situation.
Dog grooming salon manager - make sure the water is warm, and that the dog has already gone to the bathroom, try and give baths once a month or so, the dog in the pic looks young and puppies need time and patience to get used to the bathing process. Give lots of treats to make it a good experience.
