Are you in the working moms or consulting moms bowls? Plenty of us are ambitious post baby but it’s all up to you and your non negotiables. For me, I do want to be present for the little moments like dinner, bath time, etc so I won’t take travel roles, however I am my best parenting self after a challenging day at work with other adults.
Well said, and I agree for OP to join the Working Moms bowl
My perspective is that the ideal job is one that challenges me, where I enjoy what I do, where I can make an impact on my team and my clients’ business, and where I can set and have boundaries of family time respected. It’s rare to have all of those things at once, but I feel pretty damn close in my current role.
I don’t see career ambition and parenting as mutually exclusive. But not all employers are conducive to balancing the two.
That said, I don’t think full-time work is possible without childcare. There’s a reason “it takes a village” and daycare is a very important part of ours. My kids, partner and I are all better for it.
…while most of my classmates in business school pursued Private Equity, Investment Banking, or Management Consulting types of demanding career.
The feeling of being a parent is amazing. I love seeing my little one grow and learn new things everyday, but I do hope that I don’t have to completely give up my ambitions.
My partner has strong opinion that we should raise our child by ourselves without relying on nanny etc. because we don’t want to miss our child’s first times of doing things and hope the child feel strong connection and attachment with us as parents. Thus both of us settle with jobs with good WLB and flexibility at the moment, and put our ambitions on hold.
