How do you motivate yourself to do your best work in December? I feel like I’m already mentally ready for Christmas break, yet I have so many important deadlines to hit this month. It’s hard for me to keep my head down when my PTO starts in 2.5 weeks!

Honestly, same. The end of year burnout and lack of motivation is hitting hard.

The best advice I can offer is breaking up larger tasks into small, "easy to check off" tasks as best you can. I know for me, checking off things on a list is my go to for motivation when I can't find it anywhere else.

like

Great advice! The checking off tasks is a good mental way to track how much closer I’m getting to being done with work for a bit!

The end of the year is generally busier. Think that you will be able to breathe easily after February, relax.

like

You don’t. You are probably exhausted from the year and just need to focus on doing enough not to get in trouble before you can take some time to rest. It’s ok to feel tired when you are trying your best, and you aren’t a robot.

like

This is good perspective, thank you. I am tired, unfortunately I also just started a new role 2 weeks ago 😕

I keep a list of all I've achieved this year. I stare at the list regularly and try to figure out what I can add to it. It helps me get through the remaining week(s).

Enjoy!

like

Its simple, i have no motivation the rest of the year as well. It helps to treat work as a utility based decision and go into it with discipline.

I need to work on my self-discipline a bit , but I’m trying to tell myself my time off is only a reward for working hard. Good luck to us!

Fun!! Just try to focus and think how much more your can enjoy your PTO when you get it

Thanks, I will try! So close yet so far!

I’m 25 and have an array of experience within environmental science. I mostly enjoy being a field employee but recognize the pay is not always great.
