How do you motivate yourself to make healthy choices? Especially on days when you just don’t feel like

I hated my workout today. So I just did it with hate, not motivation. Just like I do my taxes. Not everything needs motivation. Sometimes you just do things you hate and feel good about yourself afterwards just because you did it.

Remind myself that the healthier I am the less chance I have of ending up in the hospital from COVID

For me when my clothes are tight it bothers me ALL DAY. So I think of that feeling and how I don’t want to feel that way. For others it may be completely different (more health related). I could never get myself to be motivated consistently until I started to think about how I had complete control to not feel the way I do when I overeat or am not working out regularly. Also I always feel better after and have never regretted working out.

Forgot to add- we only have a limited amount of time in our lives and I didnt want to constantly be unhappy with how I look / feel anymore thinking that

I control myself during grocery shopping. At home I'm lazy enough to eat whatever is lying around. For workout my gym charges me a lot, i have to be there to take what's mine....

like

write a checklist/schedule of goals every day! i even try to schedule in a walk during my work day to get up and move/take a mental break :)
stock my fridge with healthy and accessible snacks like veggies + hummus/other dips, washed fruit, homemade granola, nuts, etc. i find that helps me immensely in choosing healthier foods, when it’s in my fridge already. i also try to not keep junk foods at home.
try to pick out workout clothes the night before! if you’re really not feeling like a hard workout, gentle exercise is great too (stretching, walking, etc.)

Choose what you are saying “yes” to, instead of what you are saying “no” to. This has worked for me when I have to say no to bad food or getting drunk or whatever. You can reverse it to. So if you are not wanting to exercise, instead of saying yes to a hard hour of physical work, you are saying no to having poor health, or saying yes to fitting into some clothes

If I don’t feel like I most of the time just don’t do it. BUT the more often you do healthy choices, the less often you have these “don’t feel like doing it”. It’s just a matter of habit.

like

That’s why it’s all about consistency. It takes 21 days to form a habit. You won’t always have motivation and it’ll take having habit to get through those days.

For exercise it’s kind of easy because I enjoy the endorphins. For healthy eating it’s a challenge, but my philosophy is not to deny myself all the time, but eat healthy most of the time and if I want a particular food, I have it. I just get back on routine right after.

I agree

I don’t know. I’m really good about working out everyday but really bad about eating healthy ...

I start with buying quality products so I only have healthy options. Turn off my brain and hit workouts hard. Good luck!

I don’t and call it a cheat day to avoid burn out. Changing habits is a marathon, not a sprint.

Perspective: I am 24 and run 25 miles a week. My average heart rate is usually 175 but gets up to 200 (worrisome). My heart rate recovery is 55-75 after three minutes. I just don’t understand why my heart rate gets so high if I’m healthy. Am I breathing wrong?

How can I achieve that without surgery?
