How do you navigate lateraling to another firm because your current firm no longer has the finance work you wanted to do. Entering my second year?

The same way you’d handle lateraling for other reasons, with the added benefit that you have a good explanation for the move.

The advice I received was to highlight the experience you do have, but especially focus on your transferable skills. Explaining your background of work and then how what you have done/the level of responsibility you have/etc. can translate into a new group.

Agree with A1. You've been given the blessing of a great excuse to move during a very hot lateral market.

At what point does “ego” stop mattering? Over the past 5 years I’ve worked my way to being an Account Manager, but ultimately my career goal is to work for the government. There’s an opportunity to be an admin assistant working for the government, and would be a nice way for me to get in and move up. But the title change from Account Manager to Assistant is a big deterrent. Logically I know that it doesn’t matter, but emotionally it’s hard to feel like I am taking a major career step back?

I'm halfway through a contract position and enjoying it, and would like to transfer to full-time, but I worry about the 90-day gap in employment and that I wouldn't be able to find the same position remotely with this company. (have finance probs I won't delve into now.) Not sure how to a) tell my manager that I want to transfer to FTE but do not want to move or b) how/when to figure out my next move. Anyone willing to DM/maybe give some advice?

What is your typical total time “working” vs. time billed? I think I must be doing something wrong, because I’m having 12 hour days but only billing 7-8 hours/day. I can’t block bill so I lose a lot of time switching between tasks and reading random emails and don’t want to put down a million .1s for reading emails, but still seems weird to be losing so much time. I’ll take quick breaks throughout the day but nothing I’d expect to total more than hour. At a loss here.

If I foresee a move to a new city in a few years, is it better to be proactive and lateral to a firm in my current city that has an office in the city I plan on moving to?
