Find a connection. Like alumni or something
No alums in anywhere except my existing industry at my firm. I came from a small school.
Rising Star
Depends who you reach out to:
If it’s a director and above level, you’re interested in learning more from a leader of the group and learn how you can break in.
If it’s someone at the lower levels, you’re interested in learning more about how that person was able to break in and what their day to day responsibilities are like.
Don’t overthink “why” that person, especially if there‘s no previous connection. In fact it might even be preferred because you won’t have to worry in case you fumble something you say and you can ask what you want without being judged by that person. It might help if you do somehow have a connection, but at the end of the day people are always willing to talk about themselves/what they do so if you show any genuine interest I’m sure they’ll take the time to speak with you - especially if you’re at the same firm.
If you get invited to any of the learning calls where they talk about different industries, try following up with the presenter. They might be able to help.
Ask your coach if they know anyone. Have coffee chats with people you do know and tell them what you’re interested in and they may be able to refer you to others
Tried coach, their contacts are all in the same industry. The issue is that my industry is segmented off from the others so no one knows anyone outside lol. I’ll try to connect with some people and ask if they know anyone but I’ve tried that before it’s useless.
