How do you plan ahead for retirement? Does it impact you career choices? IE do you care about work-life balance or would you rather hustle as hard as possible to stop working sooner and more comfortably?

There’s another option: work-life balance now AND retire early. Don’t forget that earning more isn’t the only way to save more, you can also spend less (or any combination of the two that you’re comfortable with). And I don’t mean deprive yourself, just be thoughtful and intentional about how you spend money. Start maxing out your 401K as soon as you can (someone else mentioned that time is your biggest ally here) and invest beyond that too so your money can work for you. I like index funds and not thinking about it but you can tailor it to your interests and risk tolerance. I recently moved to a smaller firm that offers a better work-life balance than Deloitte (and pays more at my level but of course earning potential is less), and I am set to retire in 5-8 years (I’m mid-30’s now). I’m not sure I’ll want to retire then, but I will have the option.

I’ve been pretty aggressively investing the past 5 years, putting away close to 50% of my take home pay between Roth and HSA to max and the rest in taxable brokerage. As of right now I’m on pace to be work optional by 40 with my 2 kids being 9 and 11 at that point, and I will hopefully be able to cut work hours for family hours at that point

like

I’d contribute minimum 10% to 401k, personally I do 15% so I get used to living without that amount of money.

Also yeah probably work harder now then have to work longer or retire less comfortably. But you also only live once and could die tomorrow so I don’t wanna work 80 hours a week

Im 27 and currently contribute 17% to my 401k and have maxed out my Roth for the past 2 years. I have a family so that’s the most I can contribute at the moment. If I didn’t I would be investing the more since at my age time is my biggest asset. With that being said I try to remember that retirement isn’t guaranteed. I’d rather continue to hustle even if I had the option of “retiring early”.

My wife and I max our Roth IRAs and contribute about 12% to our 401ks. We don’t have kids so are focusing on saving as much for retirement while our living costs are low. For me I go back and forth between wlb now/early retirement. Out at 55 as a partner is pretty young, but you sacrifice key years with your family. I’m just not sure hustling while raising a family (in our near future) is something worth it to me. It sounds good now, but I know that likely my biggest regret in retirement would be that time I gave up with my family

Hey, I am appearing for a pre-sales engineer interview. It will be a sort of role-play demo session, where the team will want to understand how I present, how I manage a room, how I keep my audience engaged and also your technical abilities when asked regarding the solution. I have a liberty to choose any data science related product. I am essentially confused as to what product to choose, and how to structure the presentation. I would highly appreciate tips and suggestions. Thanks
