Hi all! I am former federal government. I resigned due to lack of opportunities and growth. I am interested in a couple of Apple service roles within Pay, Care and SDS. Also, Amazon PM roles under Music, Live Sports and Brand Protection. However, with to the current economic conditions is it smarter to focus on fed roles versus Tech. I’ve never had a Tech role. I have a BS Mechanical Engineering and MBA. Any advice would be appreciated.

What a beautiful day! 🙌🏿
Which company would you join?
I currently work in Sales with the intention of moving over to marketing in the near future. I received two offers for BDR/SDR roles from Sprout Social and Gong. Both salaries are around the same (Gong - base 63k + anticipated $25k in commission, Sprout - 55k base + anticipated $25k in commission).
I like both companies’ software and it extremely hard to decide which position will get me into marketing faster as it is not a traditional BDR path to take.
Help!

Do NOT stay in a situation that doesn’t benefit you out of loyalty to your coworkers. This is business, it’s not personal. They’d do the same thing to you if it was better for them
@OP if you're unhappy, leave. Life is too short. (Cheesy but true!) Explore new options. Now that you know what you dislike, you can ask the interviewer about those specific things you dislike and the things you'd like in your next role. Plus, you'll have a better feel for places to avoid.
I feel like us women generally take longer to decide a bad job/position won't change. Thoughts?
Full disclosure- I'm in the same boat and have found that interviewing with other companies has solidified my decision to leave this toxic place. 👋🏻
Took a lot for me to leave my last job even though I was miserable. Make sure you leave for an opportunity you feel good about, but once you do, it’ll feel amazing.
@Starcom Definitely some truth there. We’re conditioned to keep situations harmonious so we definitely grin and bear it more than men do!
@ SS thank you I definitely needed to hear that. One of my coworkers that trained me in essence kind of shamed me for having thoughts of leaving. (Earlier this year when my boss freaked out on me and It turned into a huge ordeal. ... he was shocked that I told him not to speak to me that way) basically he told me that being yelled at and belittled by your boss is just business, I’m not going to find anything different anywhere else, so I may as well stomach it and not “talk back”. “I thought we were cool, if you leave I’ll be even busier and have to train a new A.M., so don’t let him make you quit”.
The attacks from my boss are personal. There’s no professional reason to behave in that manner. But me leaving for a better opportunity and hopefully a better boss is business. Thanks for reminding me of that!
I’m looking elsewhere but it seems that my only option is to work in the city or I have an offer in NJ. Both would be 45 min to an hour commute. I just don’t think I’d be happy commuting... right now I’m 20 minutes from my job and ik that’s a luxury but for my own sanity I can’t stay here. Maybe I’m being unrealistic but after this job (my first out of school) I’m nervous that I’ll hate commuting and on top of that work for another company that doesn’t support me or help me grow. I know it’s all about taking the risk... but I’m not sure what to do. Better opportunities are out there, but I feel stuck because I’m afraid I’ll be just as unhappy somewhere else
Look elsewhere for sure!! Are you married to your area? If you’re more flexible and find a good offer, they should help with the move! My second job out of college moved me across the country to work here and I’m only a 5 minute walk from the agency. Life is too short to put up with a shitty workplace with no future!
Thanks CW1! Hope you enjoy your next move much more. Quitting makes me nervous lol. Our company is so small and ik my coworkers will be angry that I let them down in a way... but I suppose that’s just a testament to what an asset I am here 😅🙈
@SC1 thank you, yes I’m definitely making sure my next opportunity is a better fit and their company culture helps me grow! Glad you were able to make your move! Any tips for quitting?
Agree with you there @starcom and @C2 it’s funny. I’m 22 so I’m still figuring out a lot of things (as is everyone at every age I suppose) but I keep realizing those little things that were conditioned to do as women and realize what a majorly negative impact they can have if they’re not realized 🙈 I just think it’s so strange that sometimes they take quite a bit to come to light/be realized. This is one of those things I never really thought was gender specific. But I definitely agree!
