How do you rebuild your cash after a large expense? We recently did a necessary renovation to part of our home, and even though we tried to be economical, it was still a big expense. We agree on the big picture of why we did it, but are having sticker shock and also are both nervous and clamping down on spending for the time being. Is this a good response? Is there a better one?

I went through something similar and it’s not easy especially because my situation was proceeded by kids going to college . I am still struggling to get to where I was a few years back and it was exacerbated by Covid bonus reduction . Did your expenses increase because of reno?

like

Yes expenses increased to live, besides reno cost, and unfortunate impact from covid as well. Also looking at having a second kid with one in daycare already. How did/do you strike a balance? Did you put yourself on a financial recovery timeline? Or just view it as a season of spending?

I try to look at the positive as it’s an investment in my home and something me and my family will enjoy . Hurts liquidity when it’s much more than I wanted to Spend. My first focus is to make sure I have no remaining debt from it and then replenish emergency fund

I’m a 2nd year and effectively just ran a deal on my own with the partner. It ran smoothly, I got praise from the partner, and the partner said that they trust me to do most stuff without their sign off (so no need to check with them in future unless I’m really unsure). Generally there is one or two mid levels above me, and I find it way harder to do my job when they are managing me. They like to keep me on the bench, get me to do minor tasks and don’t let me take responsibility and ownership.

I know nothing about the counsel role. What terms/arrangements have people negotiated? I don’t know what negotiation ability I’ll have, but wanted to be better informed.
