Writing sample question. I drafted a really complex dispositive motion that was granted. It was obviously revised by the partners on the case but can I still use it as a sample?

A bit freaked out by my “generalist” approach to litigation so far. Almost two years in and couldn’t really say I’m that “good” in any one area.

Don’t really have my own clients, and I feel like in order for me to gain the confidence necessary to obtain them, I need to specialize in SOMETHING.

Million dollar question - any areas of litigation seen as being a good specialty to get into now/for the future?

How do I get pro hac’d into a bankruptcy case in another state

I’m a first year associate at a Big Law firm. Most of my assignments have been research memos and summary emails. I enjoy research but the questions asked are never obvious and the answer is usually nuanced, unclear, or the perfect case just doesn’t exist. As a result, it usually takes me a while to craft an answer that I feel confident in. Any thoughts on what a “standard” origination credit system is for associates at a midsized litigation boutique in Texas? The system is solidified for partners but more hazy for associates. Hoping to get some guidance.

I am a mid-level associate in litigation. In law school, I focused on appellate litigation and did exclusively moot court and appellate focused classes (successfully, won several awards if it matters). I am now doing a lot more trial at work than I expected and am feeling out of my element and not as skilled as I would like. Obviously I should have done trial practice/mock trial in law school, but it being too late for that now, any recommendations on what I can do to improve as a trial lawyer?

What is a reasonable amount to accept to settle a case with undisputed liability? Let’s say for example potential damages are realistically $100k-1M. Let’s say cost of defense is $200k. No chance of them getting out on SJ or a MTD. Is cost of defense a reasonable starting point? It seems like an offer below that would not be serious.

Probably a noob question, but can I have an expert witness identify and authenticate a website printout? The document here is the US News and World Report hospital rankings.

What does good training by the firm and senior lawyers look like? Only worked at one firm (third year) and wondering how much help should be provided when deposing or examining your first witness. Is it normal to have trainings first (like firm-sponsored ones) or have a partner explain in detail how to go about. What should you expect?

Is 180 billable hours per month a high “target” (to use the firm’s vernacular) or expectation?Although it may not be unreasonably high, I believe it is a high number and would at least appreciate someone at my firm acknowledging that. Perhaps I’m wrong and I’m sure you’ll tell me if so.

Anyone else still required to work in the office despite a stay at home order? How are you handling that? We can 100% work from home, but can't because my boss isn't taking this seriously.
