Disregard the replies here hinting that there's anything at all wrong with you for feeling this way (especially from some fading senior art director whose ass something clearly crawled up into and died) - speak up for yourself, and I hope your superiors are understanding!

I say “I have a moral opposition to working on X, so I’m probably not the right person to work on this client."

I don’t think everybody is as concerned about driving consumerism, @strat2. I personally struggle with it every day, but I think this person is referring to a specific company or product. OP, I’ve worked with several people who have asked to be taken off an account bc they had a moral or ethical qualm with it. They never had an issue getting reassigned Maybe I’m naive, but I think most agencies would be pretty understanding. The only issue would be finding you other work. But this is your personal integrity, we’re talking about. Is this something you’re willing to fall on your sword for? Would you want to work for a place that forces you to do things that make you hate yourself? I say speak up. If they fire you over something like that, then you still made the right decision. But I’m guessing they won’t.

You sold your soul when you entered the biz. We are drivers of capitalism and shareholder profit. With the exception of a few non-profit opps, we don’t get to claim to aid a cause or leave feeling morally righteous. I wish you luck, but don’t expect anything

If they have an issue with it. Come work with me.

Explain that you're probably not the best person to work on it due to your moral issue with it and then ask them what they think would be best.

Most definitely speak up. I have always respected people for doing so and, as a manager, have always found a different solution. As long as you're not falling on a sword about every type of account that someone could be opposed to working on, you should be fine. Let us know how it goes!

likehelpful

You just say that you're morally opposed to it, and can't work on it. They will probably try to find you another account. They could also say something like, "Alright. It's what we have available for you to work on. We can't force you to work on it. You can't force us to keep you on the payroll." But, since you're morally opposed to it, I'm sure you'll be fine if it comes to that.

May I ask what it is?? I guess I would say something similar to what you said here - that was polite but firm!

Our job is to encourage consumption. We use psychological manipulation to create demand. We convince the 99% to give their money to the 1%. I’m not pessimistic. I love what we do. We help create jobs and we provide access to free content! I just hope you understand: it won’t matter what you’re selling, you’ve already compromised your morals.

Trouble networking virtually; I started recently, 3 months ago. I am not sure how projects/internal moves work but I was wondering if anyone has advice on networking virtually? I am finding it tricky because I don't know anyone apart from my team & I can't view Talent Marketplace because I am on a billable project, not sure how long it will go. I enjoy my work and not looking to move just yet, I wanted to see what else is out there and looking for opportunities to network with more people.

I heard a news about few people who are in bench were laid off recently. Is it true? Anyone heard about this? One of my friend's friend who is around 2 years was laid off. She was told by talent team that clients are asking for more experience candidates and they were not able to match her to any project. She is from Salesforce practice. Please confirm if anyone heard this type of news.

Any tips for building a client base from scratch? I’m a 4th year associate at a firm of 12 attorneys. I practice in business, compliance, and real estate (primarily on partners’ files) and don’t litigate. Most of the partners’ clients are wealthy friends or friends of friends (not my circle). Associates are not referred business, even cold calls, and so far “networking” events like Chamber of Commerce luncheons have been a bust. I equate a book to autonomy and career choice and pressure is on.

On the bench and anxious! Does everyone have a project lined up immediately after a project ends even if that project weren't the top choice?

New to Project Management. Today my company asked me to PM a new customer Project. The Project is assigned a team with a technical lead. My career so far has been in development, but I have already been a lead on projects where managers had little presence and I had to do a lot of customer interactions. However, I have never been present in a project kick-off and high level decision making processes. What do I need to find out on early stages of the discussion, and what to ask in onboarding?

I am really starting to lose my patience with the WFH conversation. I understand that some roles can be completely executed at home, but our office manager just complained that 3 days per week starting in September is too much for them. Their entire job is based around our physical space but all these NYT op-eds about how WFH is the only way has sparked entitlement.

Anyone have experience with FDD at a B4 vs more of a specialized firm like A&M? I'd expect the latter to pay more, but curious if the deals worked on are actually different or there would be a diff vibe at an A&M tier. Trying to get out of audit, but not sure it's worth sticking in B4 since not feeling EY at the moment.
