How do you respond when someone asks you to explain your office culture?

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

Hi all, How do you deal with having a good relationship with an ex-colleague, and then that person switches jobs, becomes a hiring manager, is hiring for a position you’re perfect for (experience + credentials) and then you reach out to them saying you’re interested and why it would be a good idea - and then they completely ghost you..I also sent an application via the website and got rejected. I am really always trying to help out old coworkwrs with getting jobs, but this is just frustrating 🥲

Hi. What do you do with a gaslighting boss and coworker in a small office? I also don’t feel like my boss even cares about me. Examples- there was a man with a gun in parking lot that I had to flee from and call police, he didn’t care- just asked me when I was coming back to work.😳 zero compassion. didn’t care I had a blinking light above my desk, waited two months to fix it though my eye was twitching! Makes me feel like a burden for taking care of my health, etc. and gaslights me regularly!

Yesterday my boss scheduled a meeting with me for something he needed help with. He was 15min late & took a phone call from his boss during…10min. This has become a habit. At one point I even stoped scheduling our 1:1’s because he misses them so often but he realized a couple months later & told me to start scheduling them again. I told him they aren’t necessary but he insisted. What do I do? It makes me feel less important/unappreciated. I rather not even schedule to meet. Advice?

I’m interviewing at outside companies during my performance review cycle.

All signs point to a positive performance review so far and my manager has even brought up the very likely possibility of a promotion within the next six weeks.

But I’m interviewing elsewhere as I’d like to open myself up to different opportunities due to the work culture and compensation in my current role.

Will accepting a promotion and then potentially leaving weeks after hurt my resume and burn bridges? Any advice?

She needs to hear from me everyday multiple times and if I don’t answer her texts within a few hours, she can get quite controlling (text over and over again, also on my work phone, asks what I am doing and gets upset). Sometimes I wish when you were with a partner, there was a very clear sign that the person doesn’t love you so that you know it’s time to walk away. My partner and I keep having the same problems, and when I express he’s making me feel a certain way he says he didn’t mean it like that obviously.
