I would just say that an offer is contingent upon a successful background check. I usually do a dmv check, too. I had someone that had a suspended license in the last 6 months and her story did not check out. Use an outside agency, not care.com. It does not always refresh so if something happened very recently it will not get picked up.
You can go through a background check agency and do a full check if you would like. Usually it’s a few hundred $$ depending how deep of a check you want…
We always go on social media and search but depending on what kind of help we have paid for a background check (e.g., afterschool nanny etc)
Conversation Starter
For context I am getting housekeeping help for keeping us organized weekly. When you interview, do you ask for full name and photo id? Address? How do you initiate the conversation?

Do not use care.com. I am an acquaintance with a person that used the app for employment and I knew for a fact shouldn’t be alone with someone’s child. ( they have mental issues, extremely unstable)
This is about a housekeeper.
1/ I’ve taken a decision to not “hire” housekeepers - I use tech platforms / 2-sided marketplaces that onboard, vet, and hire out the contractors. They are not a domestic worker employee of my home.
2/ Regarding nanny employees: agencies are not a golden ticket either. I have successfully hired two amazing nannies from Sittercity.com (a close competitor of care.com). Those candidates both submitted to a background check and drug check after we completed several rounds of interviews and get to know you discussions after we had moved to offer.
I hired one Agency nanny last year, from an expensive and highly reputable agency. I trusted the agency’s process completely, however when I reviewed the background check there were many facts that did not line up. Ultimately, this nanny stole from me, injured my daughter, harassed me endlessly and tried to hack into my IRS account after I (very nicely) said we would not be moving from a one-week trial to offer. She made my life hell for 6 months. It was devastating.
All that to say - every potential employee, regardless of being sourced from a personal referral, agency or a nanny jobs website, must be interviewed and background checked by you, the employer.
