How do you set your career on an upward trajectory in growth start up companies where experience and historical titles are not correlated? How do you gain influence as someone without a fancy title but plenty of contributions (which is thankfully noticed)?

Keep contributing, Take on more of a leadership and expert role (even if it doesn't match the title - yet) so that people come to you for guidance and knowledge. Growth startups can come with great opportunities.


Build social capital and ask folks to talk about you. That means publishing on internal and external (LinkedIn, blog, etc) channels. Speak at events. Speak up at meetings. Get mentoring and mentor.
